I find the self-portrait to be so interesting. Especially that of the male. It is a telling window into the artist. It captures much more than a surface rendering of an individual. It memorializes a moment in time, in life, a mood, an expression, a perception of self. Seeing artists from different movements is also compelling when they are compared and morphed into one another.

I think the self portrait is cathartic and serves as one of the artists best subjects, an ever changing and yet permanent model.
